Every year a few new projects which are financed by the European Leader+ Program are reviewed on their contribution to developments in rural areas.
For the year 2007 the honey workshop of the Social Cooperative Dodecanese was chosen as Best Practice in Greece.
Resume of the review: The honey project aims to bring the production and quality of the local thyme honey to a higher level.
Beekeepers supply the raw honey which is processed in a synchronized workshop, controlled according to HACCP standards and, supported by a marketing strategy, launched on the market as ARTEMIS Thyme Honey.
The initiative creates jobs for people with psycho-social disabilities and contributes to the further development in the psychiatric hospital and the local agricultural community. It increases the competiveness of a traditional local product.
